The second-hand marketplace Members Share Frustration About Size Modifications
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The popular resale platform has updated its size classifications for female and kids' apparel but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Social Media Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with other platforms.
The platform has recommended to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Updates
Earlier, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - such as a large size was formerly size 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, located in England, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Marketplace Information
The platform boasts over 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification on the platform has faced criticism: last year, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options after backlash from users.
