Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
